Focus Group - Findings

The idea of our focus group was for us to get some feed back on the song both positive and negative that we could go on to develop into ideas for making our video.
We received some positive feedback from our focus group.  A lot of people said that they thought that the song was unique and unusual.  Peoples opinion on the song was that it was upbeat, exciting, disorganised, energetic and colourful.

We asked everybody if they could think of any other famous artists; not all were able to think of anything but people said that it is similar to 'the ordinary boys' 'madness' 'green day' 'vampire weekend' and 'scouting for girls'.

The negative feedback that we received was that they couldn't understand the words completely; this could be a problem because it may mean that lip syncing could be hard.

We are going to take a positive step forward and try to incorporate what people have said to build our ideas. We are going to do this by watching a lot of videos by the bands that we have been told are similar to ours.  We are then going to use the words that people said in our ideas to develop them further. Finally because people said that they couldn't understand all of the words we are going to make sure that we learn them perfectly so they can be lip synced clearly.

Focus Group

This is the interviews/focus group that we set up so we could further our audience research. The idea of this was to find out what people thought of our chosen and then hopefully we could build ideas on what they said.

Artist Profile - The Big Hurt

The original core of The Big Hurt began On Kent Island, MD in 1998. Early on, Billy Martin, Will Sutton, Tim Johnson and Frank Kanady began to fuse elements of Rock with Reggae, Funk, Acid Jazz, Ska and Punk with Drum-n-Bass, Go Go and Hip Hop Beats. A couple of chance responses to “musician wanted” ads brought veterans Jamie Kelley and Matt Costello to the fold and right away an amazing chemistry took form. Joe Mysko joins as keyboardist in 2007, who not only brings the most experience to the band but also gives many new directions and possibilities. The result is a sound that can be attributed to a wide variety of musical influences, improvisational skill, and a simple love for GOOD MUSIC. Message from the Band: We pride ourselves in creating good vibes and great music that is accessible to a diverse range of people. We have strived over the years to carve out a sound that will be distinctive in the industry and we always try to capture that feeling live - so if you have the opportunity… come see us. Also, please continue to check out our site from time to time for where and when our next performance will be. We are working hard to make a name for ourselves and appreciate every one who makes it out to see us. Spread the word and continued thanks to everyone for the love and support…. group member leaving

We have just recieved some bad news; megan has decide to leave the media studies course. This has left us with three members now so we will have to change our ideas slightly. We should not be majourly affected by this and will still be able to complete our video to a good standard. We wish her the best of luck.

key media conventions

  • lip syncing
  • editing to the beat of the song
  • fast paced edidting
  • range of diferent transitions
  • instrumental sequance
  • seeing the artist
  • mini narrative

'We found love' and 'Replay' by Iyaz are videos that conform to the key music video conventions as they contain lip syncing, fast paced editing, editing to the beat of the song, the artist, an instrumental sequence, range of different transitions and a mini narrative.

Some videos do not conform to the regular conventions but they follow there own conventions. For example 'Come to Daddy' by Aphex Twin, this is not a song that follows the usual conventions but it does follow the conventions for its genre.  the videos are designed to shock you and even scare you in some cases and purposely made to be weird.

This is another video that conforms to its own type of conventions.  These type off videos do normaly still have the artist on show and lipsyncing but a common theme in these videos are normal that they will be set at night or in dark lighting, there will be shots of money and cars and finally they will normally contain a large amount of people and good looking girls
